  • Description

Bristol Free School opened in Southmead, Bristol, in September 2011 as one of the first wave of 24 new free
schools to open in England that year. By February 2013, it had 216 year 7 and year 8 pupils. It was set up by
local parents who were upset that they did not have a community secondary school. They formed a trust backed
by the Russell Education Trust. The school opened in former Government offices which were comprehensively refurbished, including the creation of a new sports hall. Avonline Flooring provided a value-for-money flooring solution for classrooms, corridors, sports hall changing rooms and kitchens.

The age of the building, and its original MoD function resulted in considerable difficulties relating to sub-floor
and damp issues. In addition, hazardous materials required removal before the flooring work could go ahead.
